2007 - Apocalypse Show
Television production: Apocalypse Show
Set designer: Marco Calzavara
Location: Studio 15 Cinecittà, Rome, Rai Uno 2007
Carpentry: Scenografia International Srl
The idea for the television programme “Apocalypse Show " was to recreate a dismantled image of the mechanism of a clock.
Using this as the base, the idea of lending dynamism to all the studio walls decorated with working mechanisms of various sizes generates a spectacular, suggestive effect.
Large ribs are placed in a radial pattern around the central plafond which represents a gigantic mechanism, providing the set with considerable perspective and variety of shots.
Carpentry works accounted for 80% of the set: audience platform, tapered curved ribs, various-size mechanisms, flooring, etc.
Lastly the impact of the set is enhanced by the decoration which uses gold dust as a primary base, coated with bronze-copper dust, while the ribs were decorated with antinoise paint and given a cast-iron finish.
The set was perforated for the most part using computers, cut piece by piece and put together as on a production line.
